In the summer of 1978. I was lving with and working for the Handleys, Sue and Leon, in Yreka CA. Charley,Lucy and I believe their two children came for a visit. At that time Charleys’s condition was slightly noticable. In 1994 again I met the Wedemeyers at a wedding of one of the Handley children. By this time Charley was completely on life support.
I have since learned that it was my grandfather, Dr. H.C. Habein that diagnosed Lou Gerig with ALS at the Mayo Clinic.
As I learned of the book, Charlies victory and the films, I have been a fan. I guess I am always seeking encouragement from those who are walking the walk in Christs footsteps. Those who perhaps would be regular folks had they not answered Gods call to be extraordinary examples to the rest of us.
You have blessed us all. Praise God for you.
